Why would anyone, atheist or not, ** ever ** cast off the knowledge of sins forgiven?

So, if we never recognized how greatly our "sins" have offended God, then how would it be a "burden" for us? And if Jesus already took care of the punishment for these unrecognized "sins", then why are you bothering us?
