My dog died a year ago :(?

i had a white maltese who died about a year ago...ive been so depressed ever since she died...she wasnt that old..she was 8 years old when she died of a heart attack....i loved that dog so much..im thinking about getting another dog...do u think if i buy myself another dog i would feel better?? my dad keeps telling me that no dog could ever replace our dog snowy (the maltese that i had) also what kind of dog should i get?? i love all types of dogs but being that i live in an apartment building my landlord only allows small dogs...can someone recommend me a small lapdog that is similar to a maltese? i dont want to buy another maltese cause it would remind me of my dog who died...:(
