Question for black Men....How can you tell if a black man has lost his identity with his own black race.?

I dated this one guy who went into the military at age 18; did 8 years, married an asian woman he met in Japan, had a kid who is now 8 years old and I am a black woman. The way he acts does not remind of your typical black man. Sometimes based on some of the things that he says and his actions lead me to believe that he is not comfortable in his black skin. I even got mad at him one day and told him to take his azz back to Asia where he belongs. The mother of his child went back to Japan and left him with his daughter to raise. I just wonder if he forgot who he was while in the military or if being with this Asian woman and having a part asian daughter has changed him.
