To all Americans: Is this why nothing gets done anymore by our leaders?

Political parties run this country and each one has its own agenda. That is what they are. A set of values that politicians go by to influence their votes. If issues like abortion and illegal immigration were voted on and actually solved we would no longer need the political parties right? Take abortion. If a law were enacted to legalize all abortions the issue would no longer need to be voted on and politicians would no longer use it as a tool to get votes. So if they actually started voting and solving issues like that, they would have nothing to run on and would be, well obsolete. This is why issues either have nothing being done with them, or just little parts get voted on because the party liners need them to get your votes. This is why I feel the country is so divided and also why I feel political parties have to GO! What do you all think?
