Why do guys do this for help me please?

Why do guys that you love and care about do this **** for. My ex-boyfriend we was dating going on for a year now off and on. Well me and him was going to get marryed but then one day he was on the phone wih his best friend that is like his brother.well i was hanging out with my friends at wal-mart then he calls me up and says oh we cant date anymore cause my friend want me to date someone he his family. But about an hour later he called me up telling me that he was sorry that he is still inlove with me and cares about me. well i am sill inlove with him to. But he has hurt me so many times in the past.but at the same time I hate him.
